London based architects Foster + Partners' stadium will form the centerpiece for Qatar's new northern city 'Lusail'.
Foster + Partners, a London based architectural firm have won the bid to design the stadium for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Lusail stadium will seat over 80,000 people and will be the be the center of the newly proposed city ‘Lusail’ which is to be built before the games in 2022 and will cost the Qatari Government over US $45 billion.
It is expected to house around 400,000 people.
Lusail is located just 15 kilometers north of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Harsh climate conditions in Qatar have been addressed by Foster + Partners, with the stadium design being extremely energy efficient and capable of withstanding Qatar’s summer heat.
The stadium will be accessible via a new metro line and direct road networks.
A moat of water will surround the stadium, and spectators will have to cross one of six bridges to access the arena.
The roof is supported by almost unnoticeable arching columns, which will create the illusion that it is floating above the spectators.
