The new airport will be home to Qatar Airways and will cater for around 30 million passengers each year.
Qatar’s Airways new homeland international airport in Doha, will be able to accommodate up to 30 million passengers passing through annually.
The architecturally designed terminal is intended to create a lasting impression on the passing travelers.
HOK architects designed the terminal to reflect Qatar’s fast growing economy and population, their rich cultural history, and native environment. The curves of the structure represent Qatar’s sand dunes and ocean.
HOK wanted their design of the airport “to project a powerful image as Qatar’s gateway to the world”, wrote HOK architects.
In the longest section of the airport the ceiling is covered in wood to create a sense of warmth and in other sections glass ceilings deliver natural light through the terminal as well as allowing passengers to view Qatar’s superb sunsets.
Qatar’s new passenger terminal will include 17 airline lounges, duty free shopping, two hotels, a spa and a health club.
A public mosque will feature in the center of the terminal and its domed prayer hall will be visible from the road to the airport.
