A sleek new cultural building inspired by natural rock.
Zaha Hadid Architects have designed a new House of Culture and Arts for Jordan's capital Amman.
The design for the King Abdullah II Performing Arts Centre was inspired by the ancient historical city of Petra, Jordan.
Looking at the interplay with nature, and "the processes of erosion that have reshaped its contours", Zaha Hadid Architects say they were inspired by Petra's natural beauty and forms.
The design incorporates the theme of 'erosion' through the use of natural stone-coloured walls, and rooms that look as though they have been 'carved' out and eroded over time.
Similarly, the seated areas of the new performance space have been deliberately tiered to mimic the stratafication and sedimentation rock.
