Choosing the right area to live in a new city can be difficult and depends on personal needs and preferences. This guide outlines some of Abu Dhabi's desirable residential areas.
Saadiyat Island
Some of the UAE’s costliest rental properties can be found on Saadiyat Island, home to the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Louvre Abu Dhabi museums.
Local schools include Cranleigh School.

Reem Island
Ideal for young couple and professionals, Reem Island is situated clos to downtown Abu Dhabi, in easy reach of the Corniche, as well as the neighbouring Al Maryah Island, home to Abu Dhabi’s new financial district. Two-bedroom apartments rent for between US$32,600 to US$40,000. But the opening of several new buildings on Reem Island could temper further price increases.
Schools in the are include Repton School Abu Dhabi and Berkeley Middle East.

Al Raha Beach
The Al Zeina area of Al Raha Beach will offer the best bargains for affluent renters. New four-bedroom duplex apartments rent at around US$52,000 a year. These apartments are modern with a good layout and near the beach, so they are ideal for families.

Al Reef
Further away from Abu Dhabi island, the Al Reef development – located the other side of Abu Dhabi International Airport, towards Dubai – offers cheaper villas. This area is ideal for those who work in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Rentals start at US$31,000 for a two-bed, rising to around US$49,000 to US$51,000 for a 5 bedroom property.
Schools in the area include Canadian International School and GEMS American Academy.

Downtown and Khalidiya
The two on-island areas include many older apartments – typically with no outside space – but also newer developments such as the developer Aldar’s Burj Mohammed Bin Rashid, the city’s tallest tower.
Schools in the area include Al Ittihad National Private School, Al Khalidya Private School and The British International School.
Rent for 2 Bedroom apartments vary widely, from about US$27,000 to US$44,000 a year.
