This year’s US News and World report has named Dubai the 10^th best holiday destination in the world, surpassing some of the most iconic tourism hotspots across the globe.

The annual report highlights 30 outstanding destinations around the world and this year named Rome as the top city in the world for tourists, followed by Sydney and Porto respectively. Dubai is ahead of other famously iconic places such as Santorini, Honolulu, Bali, Phuket and Machu Picchu.

According to the report, Dubai earned its spot in the top 10 because of its “stunning views of the Arabian Gulf, heart-pumping activities and historic landmarks.” It continued, "Dubai is a city of superlatives, home to the world's tallest tower, the world's largest shopping mall, the world's largest man-made marina... but on a smaller scale, this emirate is still tied to its days as a modest port town.. Despite constantly looking to the future, this city isn't quick to let go of its past. It's this dynamic that not only put Dubai on the tourist map but will also keep it there," it said.

Aside from a spot in the top 10, Dubai was also named the number one place to visit in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

With over 300 locations analysed for the study, the US News & World Report was compiled based on expert evaluation and independent user opinions of parks, resorts and cities that are frequented by travellers and holiday makers from across the world. It identified which destinations are best for budget family trips, honeymoons, beachside vacations and national parks among others. Each place was assigned a score in several categories, including sights, romance, adventure, nightlife and food.
