Designed by Karim Nader and BLANKPAGE Architects, the beach house was conceived as a layering of decks looking out over the Mediterranean Sea.
When you approach this stunning house in Amchit, Lebanon, you arrive at the street level, just above the upper deck. As the house is on an inclined site, the additional floors are below street level. The external landing entrance interconnects the three levels of the house. The upper platform contains the master bedroom which opens up on an elongated lap pool and expansive sun deck. The middle platform has two bedrooms and a family living area, and the lower deck is a reception area which opens outdoors towards the sea through an infinity pool leading to a staircase to the shore. External ramps and staircases connect the floors, linking the various levels of the rocky landscape that stretches between the street all the way to the sea.
Karim Nader and BLANKPAGE Architects created the house which celebrates the horizontality of the sea by echoing its long horizontal lines. It was conceived as a layering of decks, with a minimalist steel structure made of equal-sized square columns, a discreet glass enclosure and wooden louvers in varying horizontal and vertical rhythms to allow privacy and shade. These elements create overlapping patterns of shadows that vary in direction and length all through the day, which create an energy to the simple structure. At sunset, the due West facing house is streaked with deep red sun rays, shining into the house.
