The home is located in the South-West of Turkey, in Bodrum - an ancient port settlement on the Mediterranean.
The ‘Exploded House’ by GAD Architecture was inspired by the idea of a design explosion.
This created the homes unique open plan living spaces connected to the natural environment.
Bodrum is not only famous for being an ancient and historical part of Turkey’s rich history but it was also home to some of Turkey’s most influential artists; Leochares, Timotheos and Bryaxis.
The ‘Exploded House’ was designed from three distinct buildings, which have been ‘exploded’ to create one single and individual structure.
The spaces are linked via glass atrium.
The three separate parts to the structure all house different aspects of the home.
The central section of the home, contains the main living area with panoramic views across local terrain and to the bay.
The roof was fitted with a natural cooling system to reduce the environmental impact of the home and to assist in naturally cooling the structure.
Pools for water collection were made on the roof, to allow rainfall water to flow from one building to the other, thus cooling the home.
Camouflaging into the landscape, the angular design of the residence and the reflections from the rooftop pools, mirror the surrounding environment, creating an unobtrusive, yet contemporary and modern structure.
