Kasbah Tagountaft was once the home of the powerful Caid of the Goundafa tribe who vied for control of the Atlas Mountains at the end of the 19th century. Situated atop a hill in a striking position overlooking the River Nfis, the Kasbah controlled the entry of the valley. Today the Kasbah is considered one of the most memorable sites of historical significance in Morocco.
